Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

How often should I wash my hair?

Washing your hair every 3–7 days is ideal. It’s not necessary or recommended to wash your hair every day. If your roots or bangs tend to get greasy between washes, you can simply wash just your bangs or use a dry shampoo to refresh the scalp.

You may also notice that your hair becomes less oily over time, as the extensions absorb some of the natural oils your scalp produces.

Should I use a special shampoo/conditioner?

No, but it is important to use shampoo only on your scalp and apply conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends. Shampoo is designed to cleanse and can strip the hair of its natural oils, which leads to dryness and split ends — especially when you have extensions.

A great routine is the condition–shampoo–condition method:

    1.    Condition the ends first to protect them.

    2.    Shampoo the scalp only, letting the suds gently cleanse the rest of the hair as they rinse out.

    3.    Condition the ends again to lock in moisture.

This technique keeps both extensions and long natural hair hydrated, soft, and healthy.

Can I use styling products in my hair extensions?

You can use any styling products with your extensions, but try to avoid overusing products that tend to dry out hair over time such as hairspray.

Always use a heat protectant spray before curling or straightening your hair to prevent heat damage.

It’s also very important to apply a daily hair oil (such as CHI, Biosilk, Moroccan oil, etc.) to keep the extensions soft, silky, and smooth. Proper moisture care will significantly extend the life and quality of your extensions

The extensions make my scalp itchy, is there anything I can do?

It’s completely normal to experience some itching during the first few weeks as your scalp adjusts to the extensions. Most itching is caused by product residue, so take extra care to rinse all shampoo thoroughly from your scalp.

You should notice a significant reduction in itching once your hair is rinsed properly and no product is left behind.

Can I dye my roots with hair extensions in?

It is completely safe to dye your roots while wearing hair extensions. Extensions can also be dyed if you’re going to a similar shade or darker.

However, do not bleach hair extensions. Because extension hair has already been processed, bleach will not lift the colour effectively and can severely dry out or damage the strands. Avoiding bleach will help maintain the integrity and longevity of your extensions.

Can I go swimming or workout with my extensions?

Yes, but take extra care to make sure to have your hair in a braid to avoid tangles and rinse hair after swimming in chlorine or salt water.

How long does my hair have to be to get hair extensions?

The minimum length for hair extensions is approximately three inches. However, the shorter your natural hair is, the more challenging it can be to achieve a seamless blend. Short hair typically requires more strands and extra styling to ensure proper blending and maintenance.

Extensions begin to blend naturally once the hair reaches chin length, but the longer your natural hair, the easier and more flawless the blend will be

Will the extensions damage my hair?

When hair extensions are installed, maintained, and removed properly, you should experience minimal to no damage. Correct installation ensures the extensions are balanced with your natural hair, meaning you should not feel individual strands once they are in place.

You should never experience pain, pulling, or tension from your extensions. If any extension feels uncomfortable or painful, it’s important to have it adjusted or removed immediately to prevent stress on your natural hair.

How are the hair extensions removed?

Designer Hair Extensions do not require special removers or acetone. Fusion bonds are removed by gently cracking the keratin bond with extension pliers, which loosens it and allows the strand to slide out effortlessly.  Nano extensions are removed using pliers by gently opening the nano link in the opposite direction from how it was installed. This releases the strand so it can slide out smoothly without pulling on your natural hair

Proper removal is essential to protect your natural hair. Never pick at the bonds, pull on the strands, or use heat to remove extensions, as this can cause breakage and unnecessary damage.

A correct removal should be gentle, painless, and take time, ensuring every bond is safely released without pulling on your natural hair.
